Fulfill Your Call

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.”  Isaiah 43:2

It is amazing how God speaks to our hearts! I was watching the film “Moana” with my daughter. While watching it, I could hear God speaking to me, as tears came out of my eyes.

Moana was the daughter of the village chief. Everyone expected that she followed her father's footsteps and stayed in the village taking care of everyone. It was forbidden to go to sea because, by past events, it was considered extremely dangerous. Nevertheless, she was “called” by the sea. She felt that she had a different destiny. Her grandmother also did, and as a soft whisper, always told her to follow her dream since she was called to greater things.

When we see the movie (which I cannot get into many details now), we see how she is CHOSEN to save her people. But, for this, she has to undertake a seemingly impossible journey; everyone said it couldn't be done; but she undertook it with the guidance of her grandmother. “Grandma”, for me symbolizes the Holy Spirit, who always speaks to us and reminds us of who we are, even when the circumstances around can make us lose our true identity in Christ.

Along the way, she met Maui, a young man who also had forgotten who he was; but with her help he assumes his identity and, together, they undertake the difficult task. On many occasions, God will put people on our way for us to remind them of who they are; that they are sons and daughters of God (like Maui) and have a purpose. At the same time, those people will be resources that God present to us to help us meet our purpose and the vision that God has called us to fulfill.

But the most shocking scene is almost at the end of the film. To finish her assignment, Moana must put a stone in the heart of a volcano. She cries out and the sea is opened in front of her, walking on dry land towards the living volcano; as the people of Israel did in front of the Red Sea. She speaks to the violent volcano and also reminds it of her true identity; the volcano had become hard, infertile, due to the pain caused when her “heart” was stolen from her (the stone). Moana speaks to it with love and kindness, TOUCHES the volcano, not a single hair was burn, and returns her "heart". The volcano is transformed into a beautiful mountain, full of green grass, trees and flowers. Moana’s village was also "healed", because of this heroic feat.

When we remember that we are daughters of God and not slaves (as Moana at the beginning of the film, enslaved in the village), God will use us to heal our land and heal those who we meet on the way. However, like Moana, we have to remember that the mission we undertake is not just for our benefit; but for the benefit of others.

I don't know what God has called you to do; what's that "calling you" or "pulling you". I don't know if all have said that you cannot do it; that it is impossible. Remember that you are the daughter of the great CHIEF, the great King. Follow the voice of the Holy Spirit and move to where He guides you; that although you find a sea in front of you, God will split it in two so you can cross in dry land and complete what He has called you to do.

Many blessings,
