Light of the World

"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12

We are living in times, more than ever that seem very dark, He (Jesus) is the Light in the Darkness. John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world (the world is in darkness called sin). Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (referring to those who have made Jesus their Lord and Savior, apart from Jesus there’s no deliverance from darkness of sin, no guidance along the way of life, no knowledge of the real meaning of life and issues of eternity)

The word darkness comes from the Greek word scotia, defined as the darkness due to want of light and used to describe ignorance of diving things.   As the moon reflects the light of the sun, so Christ is a reflection of God the Father. Every day the sun rises and it warms, illuminates and provides growth on earth.  The moon and stars provide guidance for navigation.  As ships rely on lights for safe passage, Jesus dying on the cross broke through the darkness, lighting the way to God.  1 Peter. 2:9, “…who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

`           The Bible says, “He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” Col. 1:15 Jesus is the Light of the world and all who are separate from Him live in darkness.  In Christianity, there shouldn't be such a thing as under cover believers. We have a responsibility as believers. I am led to the story in Matt. 5:14-16. Many of the cities in Judea were on mountain sides and could be seen from afar and Jesus told his disciples that they were like it.  MATT. 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, (this light is elevated, in other words above its surroundings and shines in the midst of darkness, our actions can't be hidden) "it gives light to all who are in the house" (Christians are the reflection of Jesus’s light; make sure that nothing comes in the way of that light) "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (the eyes of the world are upon us so we need to share and testify of Jesus, so others may give Him glory)

5 Things that happen when we hide the light (lose fellowship with Jesus)

*Being quiet when should be speaking

*Go along with crowd

*Deny Gods power

*Allow sin to invade life

*Ignore the needs of others

JOHN 8:12 "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” When we spend time with Jesus it’s impossible to hide the light when it shines, people can't help but to see Jesus the light. Let’s be challenged to spend time with Jesus, testify of his goodness and go light the world.
